Bordeaux is a beautiful city (not really a town) and reminds me of a mini-Paris. It's a city in which you could live without a car, unless you wanted to visit some of the excellent wineries in the area. I only know the city from a tourist's perspective, but I could see how it could easily appeal to someone who wants city life in the south of France. Another bonus is that it's close to the other wonderful places in the Dordogne such as St. Emilion and Sarlat.
