THE BASICS: HOW – FACTOR 1? What are the resiliency skill needed for moving to a new country?

The factors that will affect HOW YOU BELONG in France have as much to do with you as they have to do with France.  We assess your skills in two categories:

  • FACTOR 1: RESILIENCY SKILLS: Stuff you do yourself, mostly WITH/ ABOUT yourself  (This might be the most demanding part of the course.)
  • FACTOR 2:  NITTY GRITTY PRACTICAL STUFF: All the  stuff few people love but that  you can’t avoid  – planning scouting trips, finding housing,  finances, French admin, managing the physical move

By the way….working on your skills in the French language — that belongs in both categories.

Let’s define the resiliency skills before we assess yours.

  • Language:  We will be able to assess your language on a basic level.  But along with what level of French you have mastered, we will also talk to you about your goals.  Learning French is VERY important to help you manage and thrive in a French life.  But we will talk ‘language learning strategy’ with you, given your goals, your ability to learn, and the practical necessities of life in France, when you are not yet fluent.  In addition, we recognizse that you are not the typical age of a student, and can suggest resources that better suit the older adult.
