FAQ
Hey, why no villages? I love villages!
We love villages too. But sheer number of beautiful villages in France would have exponentially increased the number of towns. If you are strongly inclined to live in a village here are a few points to consider, here is the list of the Most Beautiful Villages in France. You might start here. Bear in mind that if it’s on this list, it is likely to be a place frequently visited by large number of tourists. Looking for nearby villages to those ‘most beautiful’ may help you locate a scenic region, but identify villages with less crowds. For example nearly everyone has heard of St. Paul-de-Vence in the PACA region, but it’s neighbor, Vence, is on our list and isn’t mobbed by tour buses half the year. Same reasoning goes for villages.
Hey why not Paris? I love Paris!
We love Paris as well, but we chose not to cover Paris for several reasons:
- Paris — living there, moving there is fundamentally very different than living in other parts of France. We felt we couldn’t cover both adequately,
- We thought there was a greated need (or lack of) information about choosing a place in France. After all the site is “Find Your French Town”; if you want Paris, you’ve already found it!
- This site started with one founder, and she had more knowledge of non-Paris France, than Paris France
Is this site just about retiring to France? Or for anyone moving to France.
Mostly, but not strictly, it’s written from the perspective of someone who’s looking for a retirement location. That being said, it is primarily a site for choosing a town, based on a set of specific criteria, none of which include where a user might need to live for his/her job. So, if you can work at your job anywhere (and have the legal right according to French law to do that work in Frence) then this site can be very usefule for you too.
