Cost comparisons

Who should you compare our prices to?

  • We’re not sure there are any programs that combine accommodation, intensive language learning, and community membership of the type we offer.  That being said,  the closest competitors we can think of are either:
    • Universities and schools.  Angers offers several university programs with French as a foreign language and while they are high-quality programs they come with particular limitations:
      • Must follow the academics school calendar
      • Most programs are for new arrivals who will be going on to full-time jobs, or must pass language proficiency tests before entering courses of studies.
      • Offer a stricter teaching style (comparable to French public school) than is common for US adults.
      • Tuition for small language classes at Catholic University in Angers: three classes a week for 2 hours: for 11 weeks (2025 quote) per person, 10-person minimum $5358 Class only.  To compare, you would add accommodation and culture/community option costs.
    • Travel companies: We found no exact matches but a somewhat comparable program (community/life-emphasis) is A Good Life Abroad.  For $3295, they offer 2 weeks in studio in  Bordeaux, some programming minimal language “Introduction to French language basics”.Extrapolating to 11 weeks, it would be $18221.50
    •  A Relocation/ hand-holding firm offers an unusual option:  HSB Landing Pads offer:

in the middle of the countryside of Gers, with no commerce reachable without a car.  Because we don’t like to make disparaging comments, we invite you to evaluate their ‘community offerings’ , which are pain in addition to the rental fees which would be approximately $9000 and must be paid in 12 month installents.  They do seem to address the issues of “learning about life” in France, which few other programs do.

Where does your money go?

  • The property owners of the accommodation
  • The French teacher
  • Library membership and French In Action fees to the Bibliotheque Anglophone  en Angers
  • Community members who share their time and skills (in coffees, conversation groups).  We pay them modestly for their time.
  • Our overhead costs (web, IT, subscriptions, insurance)
  • 50% of the profits to the Bibliotheque Anglophone  en Angers
  • As of yet, no staff salaries
