No amount of vacations will answer the most important questions…

Some of the reasons why France could be right for you:

  • For retirees,  the requirements for a visa in France is a good deal less stringent than many other countries. Specifically,   income requirements for the visa most retirees get  are  lower than other European countries.
  • Retirement income (for US residents) is not taxed.  Many financial advisors say, for Americans,  the French-American tax treaty is the best in the world..
  • The French language, while challenging, is probably not the hardest.  Many English-speakers have some French.
  • French bureaucracy is not FUN, it IS  rated as less frustrating than some other countries   (Italy, Spain, Portugal).
  • The food, the weather, the culture, the people, the beauty, and the rhythm of life…to name a few.

But there are specific reasons why France might NOT be right for you.  Our assessment phase (which is free) will usually surface those dealbreakers early and keep you from wasting your time.

This might be the biggest puzzle to solve.  It requires knowing a lot about France and a lot about yourself.  Luckily, as a part of our online course, you have access to a tool we call the Townfinder™.  You COULD spent the next year or two combing through the thousands of websites, FB groups, etc.  Or you can take our course and use the Townfinder™.

After we lead you through a process, we call the Townfinder™, we have a  one-on-one matchmaking conversation that  narrows down the towns where you are mostly likely to thrive.  And then we start helping you learn how to plan a highly successful scouting trip that lets you test out those results in person.

Life in France is more affordable than its reputation might lead you to believe.  However,  there are important aspects to managing finances  that you need to know about, particularly with reference to taxes, wills, and inheritance laws.   Our  Life in France™ online course walks you through building your preliminary budget and flagging primary financial risks ahead of time, so you know if this dream is financially right for you and what essential steps can only be taken before you move.

It is true that working with French bureaucracy (and the accompanying  paperwork) can be frustrating. It is also do-able, with good advisors.  We can introduce you to advisors who can help.  Enrolling in our online courses will give you access to either of the two most common resources.

  • Reliable peers who, while not experts, have just gone through the process and  are happy to tell you their story.
  • Experts — often called ‘relocation specialists’ or more colloquially, ‘handholders.’

Some people can manage, with a little help from more experienced friends. Others prefer trusted, vetted professionals.  Enrolling in our online course connects you to both:  a community of  potential friends and relocation professionals, notaires, lawyers, accountants, etc. (We’ll only connect you with professionals  who come highly recommended by their clients.)

Should you rent?  Should you buy?  Why are both options likely to be MUCH, MUCH different in France than your home country? Our A Life in France™ online course helps you to understand the challenges and you prepare the necessary tools for a successful housing venture. We also evaluate your choices and resources and advise you on when you may need a trusted professionals ( and connect you) or when a DIY approach to finding housing might be better.

Leaving the country you reside in is no small thing.  We’ve collected a range of questions that you need to ask yourself.  No matter how nice the place is, the move will be an enormous change.  What’s your track record with change?  We will use conversation and careful assessment to help you understand what unique aspects you bring, as a person, that will provide challenges or resources.

  • What’s your previous experience outside your home country?
  • How have large life changes challenged you in the past?
  • How risk-averse are you?
  • What are the critical ways you support yourself in challenging situations?
  • How do you experience new situations?  Difficult situations?
